LLOYD CHIGOWE might have earned himself a permanent job at Dynamos following his recent success in the Chibuku Super Cup.
DeMbare beat Ngezi Platinum Stars 4-2 after a penalty shoot-out to lift their second consecutive Chibuku Super Cup title at Rufaro last Saturday.
Success in the country’s premier knockout tournament could mask Chigowe’s indifferent performance in the league race.
Dynamos finished eighth in the league and a massive 20 points behind champions Simba Bhora.
But the Glamour Boys managed to retain the Chibuku Super Cup title thanks to a superb comeback against Ngezi Platinum Stars in Mbare last weekend.
Madamburo took an early lead through Obriel Chirinda before Ghanaian midfielder, Frederick Ansa Botchway, rifled home the equaliser in the dying stages of the game.
Dynamos then went on to win the final in the penalty shoot-out.
The club’s executive is now set to meet and review the season.
That meeting, which will be held “in the next five days” will also determine the future of Chigowe, who has been in charge on an interim basis since August, when Genesis “Kaka” Mangombe was sacked.
“We will review our season and all the attendant issues in the next five days,” Dynamos chairman, Moses Maunganidze, told Zimpapers Sports Hub yesterday.
However, sources close to the club claim that Chigowe secured his future when he led DeMbare to their second consecutive Chibuku Super Cup title.
Dynamos also beat Ngezi in the final of the same competition at Baobab last year.
It means DeMbare will play in the CAF Confederation Cup for the second season running.
A homeless Dynamos played the 2024 competition under Chigowe who came within 90 minutes of guiding the Mbare side into the money spinning group phase.
Despite the numerous challenges DeMbare faced throughout the season, including sporadic player strikes, the club still managed to knock out Zambian side ZESCO United in the Confederation Cup preliminary round.
DeMbare beat ZESCO 1-0 in Botswana before holding the Zambians to a goalless draw in Ndola.
The Harare giants put one leg into the group stage when they edged Orapa United of Botswana 1-0 in the First Round first leg encounter in Francistown, but disaster struck in the return leg.
DeMbare lost the reverse fixture by an identical score line, before bowing out after a penalty shoot-out.
Chigowe was appointed interim gaffer on August 7 and took charge of 12 league games. He won four, drew four and lost four. Should “MaBlanyo” get the job on a permanent basis, it will be his second spell in charge.
He was in charge of Dynamos in the opening games of the 2019 season, before he was replaced by Tonderai Ndiraya.
