The High Court is expected to deliver its ruling today in the case of business partners Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu, who are facing fraud charges involving US$7,7 million under the Presidential Goat Pass-on Scheme.
The duo is seeking a referral to the Constitutional Court, a legal manoeuvre that has delayed the commencement of their trial, which was initially scheduled for early October. Central to the matter is whether the trial should be paused pending the outcome of their application, as any referral requires approval from the Constitutional Court.
Chimombe and Mpofu have raised several constitutional concerns, alleging violations of their rights.
However, the prosecution contends that their application is fundamentally flawed and lacks merit, urging the court to dismiss it.
