THE Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) has embarked on several transformative projects and programmes across the country, focusing on health, education, and catering initiatives aimed at improving the livelihoods of all.
Speaking during the AFZ sundowner event held in Harare last Friday, Commander Air Marshal John Jacob Nzvede reaffirmed the AFZ’s commitment to assisting communities and supporting the Government’s efforts to enhance the quality of life for all citizens.
The initiatives align with Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030, which seeks to achieve an upper middle-income economy.
Air Marshal Nzvede said the AFZ had placed significant emphasis on education as a cornerstone of national development.
“The Air Force of Zimbabwe has gone this far with the support of individuals and corporate partners who come on board so that we fly high side by side.
“Having said this, I want to hasten to say that this opportunity for us to reflect and bask in the glory of our achievements does not mean that we have arrived at our destination.
“There is more challenging work that needs all of us to put our shoulders to the wheel so that we assist more people and help our Government to improve the quality of life of all citizens in line with President Mnangagwa’s Vision,” he said.
“It is my sincere hope that as we look ahead to 2025 and beyond, we will continue to find each other even in the darkest of moments so that we keep the Air Force of Zimbabwe ready to perform its defence duties and for us to also assist those among us who are less privileged”.
The AFZ is actively engaged in building schools, such as the ongoing project at Simuchembu Secondary School in Gokwe. Work is underway on an administration block, with plans to build a science block at the same school.
The AFZ has provided sponsorships to gifted and disadvantaged students, ensuring that financial challenges did not hinder access to quality education. In an effort to improve learning environments, the AFZ also donated essential materials, including books, chairs, and desks, to various schools.
While progress had been made, resources were still urgently needed to complete the administration block and initiate construction of the science block at Simuchembu Secondary School. The AFZ Charity Fund welcomed additional support to ensure the successful completion of these vital projects.
Air Marshal Nzvede said that these initiatives were part of the air force’s broader mission to uplift communities and contribute meaningfully to national development.
Through collaboration and dedication, the AFZ aims to leave a lasting impact on the lives of Zimbabweans.
