Man axes friend over cattle

Mashudu Mambo

A 29-YEAR-OLD man from Insuza village in Matabeleland North province was arrested after he allegedly axed his friend twice above his left eye following a misunderstanding over his cattle which had strayed into the latter’s maize field.

Dumisile Zondo appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Collet Ncube facing a charge of attempted murder.

He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody until8 March.

Allegations against Zondo are that on 17 February, he was walking with his friend Lucky Msebele (28) on their way from the shops when they saw Zondo’s cattle in the latter’s maize field.

This angered Msebele who then warned Zondo that he should look after his cattle as they were destroying his crops.

This, however, led to a misunderstanding between the two parties.

At the height of the misunderstanding, Zondo took an axe and struck Msebele above his left eye twice and he sustained deep cuts.

Msebele reported the matter leading to Zondo’s arrest.

Msebele was referred to the hospital for medication.
