Bus conductor stabs workmate with broken beer bottle

Mashudu Mambo

A 37-YEAR-OLD bus conductor from Magwegwe suburb in Bulawayo has appeared in court for stabbing his workmate with a broken beer bottle on the head over an unknown dispute.

This was heard when Nkosiyethu Moyo appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Nomagugu Maphosa charged with assault.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded out of custody to 4 April on $30 000 bail.

In his defence, Moyo said he did not use a broken beer bottle to assault the victim but he only slapped him once and he fell down.

Allegations against Moyo are that on March 14 and at around 4.30pm, he was drinking beer at a local bar with the victim Nebius Ndlovu when a misunderstanding arose.

At the height of the dispute Moyo is alleged to have struck Ndlovu twice on the left side of his head with an empty beer bottle.

Ndlovu sustained a deep cut as a result of the attack and reported the matter at Mzilikazi Police Station leading to the arrest of Moyo and subsequent appearance in court.
