A man from Luveve suburb in Bulawayo died at Mpilo Central Hospital after he was severely attacked with a shovel and slasher by his friend as punishment for allegedly refusing to share the money he got from selling a welding machine they both owned.
The incident happened on Sunday in Luveve suburb and was reported to the police.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident and the arrest of the alleged murderer Mthunzi Gumede (30).
He urged community members to engage relatives, friends, and respected figures like pastors or police rather than resorting to violence which at times leads to unnecessary loss of life.
When Martha Sebata (70) received a phone call from his beloved son Nkosiyethu Moyo (25) informing her that he was battling for his life after he was viciously attacked by his friend Gumede she never knew that was going to be the last time to speak to him.
โA neighbour provided me with transport and I rushed to the house where I found him lying on the floor bleeding profusely and he failed to speak to me.
“He was breathing with difficulty. A man who witnessed the incident told me that he had been severely attacked by his friend for refusing to share the money he got after selling a welding machine which they both owned,โ she said.
He was later rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital where he died while in a queue waiting to be attended to.
Sebata described the late Nkosiyethu as a hard-working and caring child who led a peaceful life.
โIโm heart-broken by the brutal murder of my son. He was a caring child as he used to support me financially and was respectful. He was never involved in any criminal activity or crossed anyoneโs path,โ she said.
