A 22-year-old Pumula North youth Prosper Maregere has produced a series titled Izitha that  tackles different societal issues that are bedevilling adolescents.

Maregere (22) said it took him two years to completely work on the Ndebele action series that highlights social and economic issues that have continuously impacted on local youths.

“The series recognises that many youths are unemployed and their parents are trying hard to make ends meet. The series also touches on youths who are coming from child-headed families at a time when some have been forced to venture into prostitution, crime and drug abuse. Sexual abuse of youths and issues to do with peer pressure are also tackled through the production,” said Maregere, a former Amhlophe High School pupil.

He said the production was set to première at Ster Kinekor in Bulawayo on 27 May.

Maregere has an undying passion for arts, a development that saw him have a temporary misunderstanding with his parents whom he said wanted him to pursue other avenues.

“At first, my parents did not want me to pursue arts as a career but I insisted on doing so. In 2020, I featured in a song by Teekay G, a Bulawayo artiste, and it was broadcast on ZBC television. That is when my parents understood my passion for pursuing arts,” he said.

He added that they were looking for sponsorship that will help them showcase their production locally and internationally.

Izitha trailer is available on YouTube.
