A 27-YEAR-OLD man from Bulawayo’s Pumula South suburb was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment for stealing from his employer.

Clement Sibanda pleaded guilty to theft when he appeared before Western Commonage court magistrate Shepherd Mjanja.

Sibanda was, however, spared jail agony when the magistrate suspended five months for three years on condition of good behaviour.

The remaining 10 months were further suspended on condition that he completes 350 hours of community service at Premier High School.

When asked why he committed the offence Sibanda said he was ‘broke’ and he wanted money to buy food.

The court heard that between 28 March and 4 April, Sibanda stole his employer Charity Nyathi’s (52) property from her house where he was working from.

The property included, one red water pump, generator, four piece radio, one canon colour printer, two grinders and a driller.

The court further heard that during that period, Sibanda sold the two grinders and a driller.

Nyathi reported the matter to the police which led to the arrest of Sibanda.

The value of the stolen property was US$2 000 and all was recovered.
