ACTIVE Youth Zimbabwe (AYZ) a drug treatment and rehabilitation organisation in Bulawayo is embarking on a door-to-door outpatient treatment campaign targeting drug addicts in an effort to reduce drug abuse in the country.

During its campaign the organisation is working with various experts such as psychologists. AYZ director Romeo Matshazi said they had been doing door-to-door outpatient treatment targeting drug addicts as a way of promoting a drug-free community.

“We do home visits for assessment for addiction therapy and detoxification programmes with those affected. Our team of social workers, psychologists, mental health experts and drug prevention specialists go for home visits and sessions to address the problem of addiction.

“We have visited different areas like Luveve, Nkulumane, Killarney, Gwabalanda, Nkayi, Kwekwe, Emakhandeni and Pumula South. We are currently carrying out the exercise in Parklands suburb,” said Matshazi.

Matshazi said the success rate of their campaign is at 50 percent and they hoped that as time goes on they would be successful in their quest.
