National Hero Mphoko to be buried at his home in Bulawayo

THE family of the late national hero and former Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko has advised that his body will be laid to rest at his home in Bulawayo.

The late VP Mphoko passed away on Friday in India where he was receiving medical attention.

He was 84.

In a recorded audio, the late VP Mphoko’s widow Mrs Laurinda Mphoko confirmed the latest developments.

“On behalf of the Mphoko family, I wish to confirm that my late husband the former Vice President of Zimbabwe, Report Phelekezela Mphoko’s body will be laid to rest at his home at Plot number 19 Bulawayo Drive, Douglasdale in Bulawayo.

“I want to thank the State for helping us out to carry my late husband’s wishes and repatriation work back home,” said Mrs Mphoko.

Speaking to Sunday News in a phone call on Wednesday morning, Mrs Mphoko confirmed that she had sent the audio and said they are set to depart from India on Wednesday. She expressed her gratitude to the Government which has also deployed Ambassador Stella Nkomo to accompany the family.

She said, further burial arrangements will be announced upon arrival in Zimbabwe.
