President Mnangagwa who is accompanied by Vice President Constantino Chiwenga is at King Solomon Hotel in Kwekwe to officially open the Iron and Steel Indaba.
The President is expected to engage with industry leaders and policymakers to discuss investment opportunities and strategies aimed at enhancing the growth of the steel sector.
The Indaba is running under the theme “Leveraging the resurgence of Zimbabwe’s iron and steel industry”.
Key speakers include chairman of Dinson Holding Company Mr Chen Shangsong and the president of the Engineering Iron and Steel Association of Zimbabwe.

Steel and iron industry could spur economic growth: President Mnangagwa
Speaking at the event, President Mnangagwa said the coming in of Dinson and Steel Company in Manhize will turn around the country’s steel industry to become one of the biggest in sub-Saharan Africa.
He said the investments made by Dinson and Steel are a show of confidence in Zimbabwe.
The President said Zimbabwe’s vast natural resources should be harnessed for the betterment of the country.
“Zimbabwe is the biggest importer of steel products, spending over US$1billion, and yet we can produce our own steel,” he said, adding that the iron and steel industry could be the cornerstone for the growth of Zimbabwe’s economy.
“I challenge stakeholders in this industry to work hard and promote value addition of our natural resources,” said the President.
“I urge you to work in unison as we build a strong iron and steel industry, which is the backbone for the growth of our economy.”
