Sipho Mercent speaks on Wrong Turn

Langalakhe Mabena
Comedian and socialite Sipho Mercent Nyathi recently took his followers by surprise when he proved to be a man of many talents with the release of a single titled Wrong Turn.
The single, which has taken Bulawayo and the rest of the country by storm is complemented by clean visuals shot by Brooklyn films international.

The song, which has a Zim Dancehall feel, was composed and produced by Sipho Mercent in collaboration with Stormza and Francis “Fraz” Tsuro who is a former member of Kwaito group Three Kings of the Seqamabhilidi fame.
Mercent — a socialite who became much popular this year courtesy of his comic skits, said he has always been a producer for many years, but with the release of Wrong Turn, he wanted to test the waters and explore if he can make it in the music scene.

Surprisingly, the decision is working in his favour as the single is trending on local radio stations and even on social media.
“I have been a music producer for many years, but I prefer to be known as an all-round creative. I have also been involved in artiste management for a couple of years, so I understand what it takes for an artiste to gain popularity.

With many opportunities coming my way this year, which have attracted more followers to my brand, I decided to test the waters and venture into music by releasing Wrong Turn.’ It seems people love the song.
The composition of the song started as a joke. I usually don’t write lyrics down, so I freestyled over an instrumental. The guys I was with (Stormza and Fraz) were convinced that the chorus was catchy and had the potential to be a hit. We then recorded the song,” said Mercent.

After Wrong Turn ,Sipho Mercent said more music will be released in the first quarter of 2025.
“I did a song with Umnikazi Wempuphu titled Nyama Yembongolo. I also did another single titled Isela. These singles will be released early next year. I will also be releasing short films I did as well as launching the Indaba Zabantu podcast,” said Mercent.

On his feud with Ma9nine which has become a talk of the town after the two creatives dissed each other, Sipho said Ma9nine crossed the line.
“It’s a war zone, Ma9nine crossed the line and over reacted (based on my lyrics on Wrong Turn) so I have to put him in his place where he belongs, which is in the backyard.

“I am sorry to his fans because now I have to end his musical career but he asked for it. In the words of Madlela Skhobokhobo ‘ngizamu nanka tjoe’ (I will beat him musically),” said Mercent.
