ACES Youth Soccer Academy (AYSA) founder and executive director Nigel Munyati says their grassroots development conveyor belt never took a sabbatical since its establishment 24 years ago and is looking to produce more talent for the local and international market.

Munyati was speaking ahead of an under-20 Soccer Showcase they will host this weekend at Crown Sports Club.

The two-day football showcase will feature 12 teams including BN Academy, Total Academy, Chawira Academy, MWOS FC, DC Academy, FN Academy, Prime Time, Jadel Football Academy, Golden Eagles, Real Betis, Sheasham FC, and hosts AYSA.

AYSA have a rich history of producing top players that have shone at various professional football stages.

“In the 24 years since our establishment, AYSA have never taken a sabbatical. We have been working nonstop, producing talent that continues to enthrall the PSL and Division 1,” Munyati told Zimpapers Sports Hub.

“It is no surprise that a player like Allan Chapinduka, who graduated from the academy early this year, is recognised as the most promising player in the PSL.

“Our mission is to help young Zimbabweans escape the poverty trap through football. With over 500 boys and girls having come through AYSA, and over 50 currently playing abroad, in the PSL, and Division 1, we believe we are achieving our mission,” he said.

Munyati said they also work hand in hand with other local academies.

“Academies generally enjoy collaborative relationships born out of mutual respect. We also mentor fledgling academies or those facing hardships, and each year, we donate some of our old kits and equipment to these academies.

“ZIFA has been missing as a regulator, but we are happy to see a move in the right direction in prospect of a junior football development program starting in 2025,” said Munyati.

Scouts from the Division One leagues and PSL are expected to attend the weekend event.

“AYSA has a horde of stars ready for the big stadiums around the world, as the Showcase will demonstrate.

“This showcase will be a display of the best young talent that’s ready for professional football. We are offering PSL and D1 the opportunity to scout talent from a wider pool than they will get from holding their own trials,” said Munyati.
