WARRIORS’ United States based centre-back Teenage Hadebe will be the guest of honour at Mawabeni Grounds in Umzingwane District next Sunday as the nation celebrates Unity Day.
Hadebe a former Bantu Rovers, Chicken Inn, Highlanders and Kaizer Chiefs defender, now plays US Major League Soccer for Cincinnati.
He will be on a break.
Mpumelelelo Nkomazana the organiser of the event and also director of newly promoted to the Zifa Central Division One League, Mawabeni said he had decided to celebrate the promotion by bringing legends to the village.
“Our promotion to Division One as Mawabeni, it’s a football journey just begun. We are a long way far and there is all to gain out of every footballing moment that comes by. We are keen to unleash the spirit of the game and brighten up the scene for our football crazy Mawabeni community.
“Hadebe is a very big man stature wise in football. He plays at one of the biggest leagues in the world where some great players like Lionel Messi and David Beckham have made headlines. His coming to Mawabeni we have no doubt will inspire our Division One boys.
We will ask him to have a pep talk with them. He has travelled the road and knows the pitfalls in the game of football,” said Nkomazana.
Hadebe’s visit will coincide with the hosting of a four-team tournament among them Ambassadors which boasts a generation of stars that played Premiership football from 1993 to date.
Ambassadors have Zenzo Moyo former top goalscorer and Soccer Star of the Year, Herbert Dick, Ronald Sibanda, Siza Dube, Vorster Chitemu, Nkosana Gumbo, Gift Lunga (Jnr) and Chipo Tsodzo, very prominent players of their era.
“The community knows teams like AmaZulu, Bantu Rovers, Highlanders and Zimbabwe Saints. Some will see some of the players they read about or heard of on the radio. They will be live and strutting their stuff on the field, taking some of our fans down memory lane.
“For our players that will serve as an inspiration as they see Ronald Sibanda even in his late 40s still showing why he was the master passer of the ball among his generation. So for our community, our Christmas to them is the Division One franchise and legends,” said Nkomazana.
Unity Village, Stars, Stars, Mawabeni and Ambassadors are the clubs that will take part in the event.
Nkomazana said Mbesuma Holdings, Skhulu Logistics and Body Works Gym are the co-sponsors of the event.
