Man kills wife over parental neglect

IN a heart-rending incident, a man who accused his wife of neglecting his parents tied her hands to her legs with a rope before he allegedly fatally struck her with a mattock, and locked her inside the house, where her body was found days later, rotten.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Isiah Simango (28) appeared before Chipinge magistrates’ courts facing a murder charge. He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to December 23.

The court heard that Simango accused his wife of neglecting his parents by not helping them with food and prioritised her own parents. Enraged, Simango grabbed a mattock and allegedly struck her on the head.

His wife bled excessively. To add to her suffering, Simango tied her hands to her legs and locked her inside the bedroom before fleeing.

A few days later, a neighbour became suspicious after noticing flies buzzing around the hut.

Upon closer inspection, she detected a foul smell. She knocked on the door, but there was no response. She informed other villagers, who broke down the door and found the woman’s body in an advanced state of decomposition.

The matter was reported to the police, who launched an urgent manhunt leading to Simango’s arrest.
