THREE MONTHS LIVING WITH RAW SEWAGE

FOR the residents of Zengeza 1, along Haka Street, it’s now three months of living with raw sewage flowing into their homes.

Residents are claiming that the Chitungwiza Town Council is ignoring their calls for help.

In an interview with H-Metro, Pedro Kangeni, a resident of the neighbourhood, said:

“It has now been three months since the problem started.

“We are now using two toilets the whole line since other toilets are blocked.

“The sewage is now flowing into our houses and it is now posing a threat to our health.”

Kangeni added:

“Those who live along the other street next to ours are saying they are facing a similar problem and it’s now been five months without an intervention from the council.

“The Town Clerk does not respond to calls or even messages.

“We are now forced to live with raw sewage and all hope is lost since the Council keeps on giving fake promises.”

Another resident, Ruth Gwendu, said:

“We are now in a tight spot and we are concerned there could be cholera here soon.

“Our plea is for the responsible authorities to take action as the problem is deteriorating every day.”

No comment could be obtained from authorities who run the vast dormitory town.

Chitungwiza has been battling sewage challenges for some time now.
