MAYBE, THIS IS WHAT HELL LOOKS LIKE, SAYS DISABLED MAN WHO IS BEING TORMENTED BY HIS BROTHER, SISTER

Laura Maposa

THIRTY three years ago, Moreblessing Maretsa’s life changed forever after he was hit by a car in an accident which left him confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life.

He was in Grade 6 when fate struck him with a huge blow.

That was in 1992.

The compensation he received from the accident was used by his parents to buy a house and a car.

However, after his parents died, the house has become something of a curse for Moreblessing.

It was sold by some of his relatives and he had to go to court to reclaim it.

Now, he claims, his brother and sister, who do not stay in Harare, have been chasing away tenants, whose money he needs to survive since he cannot work because of his condition, leaving him to live a miserable life.

Moreblessing claims the two have even locked the rooms, even though they don’t stay in the capital, just to frustrate him.

He claims his brother, who works in Beitbridge, claims he wants to use his room when he comes to visit the capital even though, at times, he doesn’t do so for two years.

His ordeal, he says, started when his parents died.

“I was involved in an accident back in 1992 when l was in Grade 6,” he told H-Metro.

“The accident left me crippled and in a wheelchair.

“When that happened, I was compensated and that money was used to buy a house and a car by my parents.

“My mother bought the house and put it in her name and made all of us the beneficiaries. My father used some of the money to buy a car, which was given to my elder brother after he died.

“However, after the death of both my parents, the house was sold by our uncles, leaving us homeless.

“I had to go to court to fight for the house and I won it back and decided to put some tenants in since I can’t work or find a means of living.

“I use one room and I have rented out the rest of the house.”

But, there has been no peace of mind for Moreblessing.

“Now it’s been constant fighting for the house with my siblings as they have evicted all the tenants saying they want to leave their property in the rooms.

“My elder brother, who is currently staying and working in Beitbridge, evicted one of the tenants saying he wants a place to sleep in when he comes back home to visit.

“He comes once a year or once in two years, asi room yacho anosiya iri locked.

“All my siblings know of my condition but they don’t care or even help me out.”

Moreblessing was full of tears as he narrated his story.

“My other sister who is married, and stays elsewhere, still comes to the house to fight and torment me.

“She claims that it’s a family house even though they know that I  can’t work and that house helps me survive.

“She also locked a room and no one stays in there.

“I ended up taking her to court for a protection order since it was very emotionally draining.

“My siblings are the ones that are supposed to help me and understand my situation but they are the ones at war with me. All I want is for me to be able to put up with tenants and get some money that will help me survive,” he said.

No comment could be obtained from Moreblessings brother or sister yesterday.
