A BULGARIAN man, who arrived in this country claiming he was an investor, was arrested after he was found in possession of a top-of-the-range car that was reported to have been stolen in South Africa.
Adam Markov, 33, was not asked to plead when he appeared before regional magistrate Taurai Manuwere.
Allegations are that Markov stole a car from South Africa and brought it into Zimbabwe.
On Friday, detectives from CID Vehicle Theft Squad in Harare received information that the stolen Jeep Cherokee had been tagged with fake registration numbers AGQ6923.
Acting on the tip-off, the detectives recovered the car from Markov.
It was physically inspected and the chassis number was observed to have been grossly tampered with.
The original chassis number was removed and a fake chassis number 1C4RJFFGXCC167643 was engraved. The original engine number, CC142923, was observed to be the one on the car.
An Interpol check was carried out and it emerged that the car was stolen from South Africa.
Its original chassis number being1C4RJFGG3CC142923.
The owner of the car is yet to be established.
