FORMER Young Warriors skipper – Tinashe Malunga – is vying for a position in the national football administration body.
Malunga’s football journey began at Chirowakamwe Primary School and Dangamvura High School in Mutare.
Born in Gweru, but raised in Dangamvura suburb, Malunga represented the Young Warriors, in both the Under-17 and Under-20 teams.
A distinguished academic, Malunga holds a Master of Law (LLM) in Banking and Finance Law from Queen Mary University in London.
He also obtained a Bachelor of Law (LLB) degree from University of South Africa in Pretoria.
Currently, Malunga is pursuing a Global Master’s degree in International Sports Law. During his formative years in Dangamvura, Malunga’s impressive performances on the pitch, combined with his exemplary discipline, earned him the prestigious role of first-team school captain at Chirowakamwe Primary School from Grade Five to Grade Seven. Notably, he was also a member of CPMZ Juniors during this period.
As he progressed to secondary school, Malunga became an integral part of the Dangamvura High School soccer team from Form One onwards.
Malunga’s impressive football career is marked by notable achievements.
He captained the Manicaland Under-13 team from 1999 to 2000, and was named player of the tournament at the Peter Ndlovu Tournament in 2002. He further honed his skills at the renowned Agatha Sheneti Soccer Academy in Harare, which he captained from 2003 to 2005.
Regarding his professional aspirations, Malunga said: “My objective is to add value to the domestic and international sports fraternity as an effective legal advisor and administrator,” he said, attributing this goal to his academic background, having earned a Bachelor of Law degree and a Master of Law in Banking and Finance Law.
Additionally, Malunga’s experience as a professional footballer and captain of Zimbabwe’s Under-17 and Under-20 national teams has equipped him with valuable insights.
“I possess a wealth of experience and knowledge about the operations, corporate governance, and best practices of financial and corporate institutions, with a focus on legal, operational, credit, and compliance aspects,” he said.
