Five players leave Bosso…As out-of-contract Andrew Tandi gets the chop

HIGHLANDERS have parted ways with defender Andrew Tandi after the Premiership football club decided not to renew his contract, which expired on December 31.

Tandi spent the second-half of last season on loan at Arenel, where he aimed to revive his career after recovering from a severe injury.

The defender had fallen down the pecking order in the Bosso defence since suffering a career-threatening injury in May 2022.

Tandi fractured his right fibula and dislocated his ankle during an abandoned Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match against Dynamos at Barbourfields Stadium.

Before the injury, Tandi had established himself as a key player in the Bosso backline, partnering with Peter Muduhwa. He previously played for Black Rhinos and Bulawayo City. A source close to the club confirmed that Tandi would not be retained.

“Tandi will not be a Bosso player after the club chose not to extend his contract beyond December 31,” the source said.

Highlanders are undergoing significant changes, with several players leaving during the off-season, including Peter Mudhuwa, Godfrey Makaruse, Lynoth Chikuhwa, and Marvellous Chigumira, who have joined Premiership newcomers Scottland.

Coach Kelvin Kaindu is rebuilding the team, with the club leadership throwing their weight behind him.
Highlanders face the daunting task of ending their 18-year championship drought in the upcoming season.

Kaindu’s first stint with Highlanders began in 2012, where he led the team to a 23-match unbeaten run, ultimately losing the title to Dynamos on goal difference. He returned for the 2024 season and finished sixth on the table.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) is expected to hold its annual general meeting next month, before the 2025 season kicks off in March. Most clubs are pushing to conclude player transfers early to be ready for the league’s start.

The Castle Challenge Cup, featuring Chibuku Super Cup champions Dynamos against league champions Simba Bhora, will kick-start the new season.
