Mablanyo defiant. . . unshaken by emerging money-bags

Tadious Manyepo, Zimpapers Sports Hub

DESPITE the mass exodus of key players, Dynamos coach Lloyd “Mablanyo” Chigowe remains calm and confident.

The experienced gaffer has witnessed similar transfer market frenzies in the past, and he’s not convinced that the influx of cash at teams like Scottland and Simba Bhora will dethrone the Glamour Boys.

Chigowe acknowledges the financial muscle of these teams but firmly believes that Dynamos remain the standard-bearers of Zimbabwean football.

He’s proud of the team’s rich history and its ability to adapt to changing circumstances.

In an interview with ZTN Prime, Chigowe said teams like Shooting Stars and Black Rhinos dominated transfer headlines in the past, but at the end of the day, Dynamos still stood firm.

With his impressive track record, including leading Dynamos to Chibuku Super Cup glory last season, Chigowe is well-equipped to navigate the challenges posed by the transfer market.

He’s focused on rebuilding his team and ensuring that the Glamour Boys remain the team to beat in Zimbabwe football.

“You have people who have the capital to splash around and have signed probably more than they require but we work with what is available.

“Dynamos have always survived against these up-and-coming money-bags from time immemorial.

Remember the Rhinos era, the Shooting Stars experiment, AmaZulu, I can go on and on. But we are the yardstick of Zimbabwean football,” said Chigowe.

“For the record, we have signed some Premier Soccer League players. It’s not like we are signing only lower division players, it’s only that at the moment we cannot disclose.

“We also have some Ghanaian players who are with us here. We have a striker from Ghana we are assessing.

“He looks promising, so we are not lacking really in terms of having players with exposure.

“Of course, it would be good for us to introduce new talent, new gems so that we are not masters of recycling.”

The Glamour Boys have already unveiled Leeroy Mavhunga who joins from Scottland where he was an important player for their Northern Region Soccer League heroics last season.

He joins Ghanaian Frank Agyamag and Farai Mutatu who were announced last week.

Chigowe said the coming in of well-heeled teams like Scottland and Simba Bhora was good for the game and players ought to enjoy the fruits of their sweat more.

“It’s there in the football ecosystem. It’s good because the boys can make money and the game becomes more lucrative. Zimbabwean football becomes attractive because of the emergency of those boys.

“It’s not an easy road to build a new team but we also have to be realistic to accept that these players probably need a change in terms of their lives.

“We look forward to the challenge. It’s not going to be easy playing against star-studded teams but let us be pragmatic, it would be 11 versus 11.”
