Feed your focus, starve your distractions

Welcome to this brand new Year! What better time than this to recast and realign our focus to the goals we set and immediately start working.

We are now living in an era, which is so full of distractions and if we are not careful, we can get swayed out of the way and end up miles apart from our intended destination.

The enemies of our success count heavily on distractions to get us off course so that we miss the target.
To counter this, under no circumstances should we lower our goals to bring them into alignment with our focus, wherever that focus may be.

It is our focus that should be retrained upon the goal, no matter how big that goal may seem. Attainment of that goal, whether big or small, entails success.

The distractions that are cast before us can be so appealing and so luring. The more we are drawn to them, the more we feed them, while starving our goals of the focus they deserve. However, if you are going to reach the fullness of your destiny, you need to keep your focus steady upon your goal. Even the Word of God instructs us: Resist the devil and he will flee (James 4 : 7).

Have you ever noticed how subtle these distractions can be, how with such โ€œpracticedโ€ skill, they can creep into your schedule unnoticed and then immediately begin to rule?

That feeling of hunger the moment you get around to start working, the overpowering need to catch up with friends and colleagues before you do anything else in the office, the notification sound on your cell phone now and again, demanding that you check your messages, the latest status updates, your Facebook feed, the topical issues etc.

Each of these distractions will expertly offer you leads that would take you further and further within, until you are captured, mind, heart and soul. In this cacophony, giving your goal a thought would actually be a very strange thing.

I am not in any way implying that all those things are bad, but I am suggesting that we give them time slots, which we strictly adhere to. For you to achieve your goal and success, I suggest you stay focused, disciplined and committed. Here are a few tips that can be helpful:

Set clear goals
Create a schedule and work from it
Eliminate multitasking
Use productivity apps if you can

Focus on positivity and ignore negative thoughts Nurture good habits
Choose productivity over procrastination
Prioritise self-improvement

Read inspiring books
Exercise regularly
Learn new skills
Pray and meditate

In this way, we get to feed our focus and in so doing, we starve the mean distractions.
Yes, once in a while, you may lose course and drift, but there is no better time than right now to pause, re-strategise and start again!
