A 29-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo man has been convicted of attempted murder after he stabbed his friend during a dispute in Old Luveve suburb.
Calton Ncube was convicted by Bulawayo regional magistrate Mr Matthew Mutiro, who remanded him in custody to tomorrow for sentencing.
The stabbing, which left the complainant, Mr Mengesi Mkhwananzi with severe abdominal injuries, occurred on November 23 last year at around 4AM at a house in Old Luveve suburb. Ncube admitted to assaulting his friend but denied the stabbing and any intent to kill.
In his ruling, Mr Mutiro said the complainant suffered emotional trauma although he is recovering well.
โThe complainantโs story was clear and straightforward. He gave his evidence convincingly. He was consistent in his narration of what took place. He could have pointed at anyone as being responsible for stabbing him but he only pointed at his friend and was able to identify the weapon used,โ he said.
Prosecuting, Mr Jethro Mada said Ncube slapped Mkhwananzi twice before stabbing him three times in the stomach.
He said the complainant sustained deep cuts and was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital with intestines protruding.
Mr Mkhwananzi was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit and the assault was reported to the police leading to Ncubeโs arrest.
