Chikanga drowning victim identified

POLICE have identified the 11-year-old boy who died after drowning a in muddy pool in Chikanga last Friday afternoon as Kelvin Dhanisa Katsande.

Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka said: “At around 1pm on Friday, along an unknown gulley near aerodrome Road, Kelvin Dhanisa Katsande, a boy aged 11 of Chikanga suburb went to fetch rabbit feed together with three friends.


“After agreeing to embark on a swimming expedition in the gulley, the deceased removed his clothes first and the others followed.


“When Kelvin drowned, one of his friends tried to rescue him, but failed. His brother, Oris Chikotosa, aged 19, reported the incident to ZRP Sakubva. The body was retrieved, and taken to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.”
