IN a spine chilling and gory case, a Buhera man allegedly savagely axed his biological son till he died, while his father was watching in a murder case that has shocked the Chamutsa community.
The father, Tawanda Magoso (32), allegedly struck his 11-year-old son, Tawonga, once on the back and thrice on the neck.
The reason for the brutal and scary attack is yet to be established, but preliminary investigations showed that the vicious attack was unprovoked.
Tawandaโ€™s father, Mr Enock Magoso (70), had to run away for dear life after the accused person advanced towards him moments after murdering his own son.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the incident, saying the neck of the now deceased, Tawonga, was almost separated from the torso following the intensive chopping. โ€œTawanda Magoso is the biological father of the now deceased Tawonga Magoso. On the day in question, the deceasedโ€™s grandfather, Mr Enock Magoso (70) was inside his two-roomed house since it was raining.
โ€œThe accused person was at a local shrine praying, while his now late son was in his fatherโ€™s one-roomed. The accused person came home, and suddenly entered the house where Tawonga was. He picked up an axe. Tawonga noticed that, and sensing danger, he ran out of the house, trying to escape. His father gave chase and caught up with him about 11 meters away.
โ€œHis father struck him on the back with the axe. Tawonga screamed for help. The grandfather saw the accused person chopping the now deceased on the left side of the neck twice. The accused person advanced towards his father who ran away seeking help from neighbours.
โ€œThe accused person left the homestead and proceeded to a nearby mountain. A report was made at Birchenough Bridge Police Post, and police officers attended the crime scene. They observed a deep cut on the left backside, the neck was nearly separated from its torso and one left hand finger was cut off. Police arrived when the community had already effected a citizen arrest on Tawanda,โ€ said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
He said Tawanda Magoso was showing signs of mental illness, but has no documented history of receiving medication for the illness.
The now deceasedโ€™s body was conveyed to Birchenough Bridge District Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.
Investigations are in progress.
