No room for criminal elements in Zanu-PF

Dr Obert Moses Mpofu

ZANU-PF does not condone wayward behaviour. Those that commit crimes in the name of the Party should not be spared from facing the full force of the law. There are several individuals inclined towards criminal activities who have been committing crimes while using the name of the Party.

In their superior wisdom, or evident lack of it thereof, they have been fleecing people and committing fraudulent activities while claiming that they are linked to the Party in one way or the other.

Let me categorically state that such behaviour will not be tolerated. Anyone who puts the Partyโ€™s good name into disrepute or abuse their position within the Party to fleece people and commit crimes will face the full force of the law. The Party will not hesitate to expose such individuals and have law enforcement agencies deal with them in a befitting manner.

It is unfortunate that the Partyโ€™s good name has been abused by those who have no idea of the values of the Party or have the love of the Party at heart. Zanu-PF was built and is anchored on a foundation of hard work and we are always focused on ensuring that we work hard to meet our goals, both at the individual level and as a collective. We do not harbour criminals.

There is no space for criminal activity within the peopleโ€™s Party.

Zimbabwe is a law-abiding country and Zanu- PF, is a law-abiding Party which does not condone any wayward criminal behaviour. The Party does not in any way condone any illegal activities.

In fact, our leader, President Mnangagwa, has often urged authorities to arrest and prosecute those perpetrating crimes using the name of the Party. Zanu-PF is a political party that has massive respect for the laws of the land.

We do not have any room for criminals or criminality within our organisation. Those who think they can commit crimes with impunity because they can claim membership to the Party should be ready when the law comes knocking. The Party will always distance itself from any criminal activities. There is no way that the Party will protect criminals. All criminals will be exposed and we will let law enforcement agents deal with them accordingly.

There is a misconception that association with the party gives one a free pass in everything. The truth is far from that. It is only those that do not have the Party at heart that harbour such a warped way of thinking. Bona fide party cadres are aware of the manner in which they are expected to behave. They know that they are supposed to protect the Party and its image at all times. The Party stands firmly against wayward behaviour and anything of a criminal nature.

It is evident that there are those who joined the party without any good intentions. There are those among us who came to the party for their won profit and such individuals will go to great lengths to achieve their goals at the expense of the Party. In recent weeks, my office has been inundated with several complaints ranging from dubious land deals to the theft and abuse of Presidential inputs by individuals masquerading as Party officials. Such individuals must quickly change their ways for the net is closing in on them. We are not going to allow a few crooked individuals to sully the Partyโ€™s good name for their personal gain and profit. The driving force behind the Party has always been that, the first crop of Party cadres at its formation were more focused on what they could do for the Party, rather than what the Party could do for them. This is why our movement broke barriers and was able to defeat the former colonisers. It was that belief in sacrifice and doing whatever it took for the benefit of the Party and the generality of Zimbabweans. It is this kind of thinking that we should always adhere to, for our Party still has a long way to go. There is so much to be done in the quest to achieve our nationโ€™s aspirations and we cannot achieve them with individuals that are more focused on personal gain. We should all take a cue from President Mnangagwa who has spent his entire life in service to the Party and the people of Zimbabwe.

Service and selflessness are essential in our efforts towards building a formidable nation. We should thus shun all criminal activities and all play a part towards weeding out unruly elements whose actions taint our Party. The Party is taking an active stance towards weeding out all unruly elements that taint our image. We will ensure that those involved in illegal activities while abusing the name of the Party are dealt with accordingly. We have put so much work in building our Party to the position it is that our efforts will not be tainted by a few crooked individuals.
