A stray dog in Bloomingdale, Harare, bit a City Council worker who was on duty, Ward 16 Councillor Denford Ngadziore has said, adding that the council’s by-laws should be enforced to protect members of the public.
The incident was reported at Mabelreign Police Station, and the victim is receiving treatment at the Mabelreign Council Clinic.
In a statement, Councillor Ngadziore said Anderson Tendayi Nyambayaro, who is from the amenities department, was bitten by a dog at house number 6087 in Bloomingdale.
“The dog’s owner failed to produce any documentation proving that the dog had been vaccinated as required.
“The Dog By-Law, Section 12, should be enforced. We are seeing several stray dogs in our communities,” he said.
Councillor Ngadziore said the by-law specifies that no owner shall allow their dog to roam without restraint beyond the limits of their property.
He added that the by-law also stipulates that every dog owner must ensure that their property is secured and gated to keep the dog(s) within the confines of that property.
