BPPA boss calls for sportsmanship at Easter tourney

BULAWAYO Province Pool Association (BPPA) president Fortune Tawengwa has implored the 16 clubs that are going to take part in the two-day Easter Pool tournament to uphold the tenets of true sportsmanship so as to spice up pool lovers’ long holiday.

This year’s edition of the annual contest is going to see its preliminary rounds being played on Good Friday and on Easter Saturday at four different venues; Queens Sports Club, Palace Hotel, Nokies Bar and Golden Pillars.

The competition’s final matches will be staged at Queen Sports Club.

“We are glad to say that as an association we are once again set to have our annual Easter pool tournament which will be played on Good Friday and Easter Saturday. As such, I would like to say this is meant to spice up pool lovers’ holiday meaning that there is a need for clubs to play the games with true sportsmanship. People should grace all the venues and enjoy the game of pool peacefully and freely back their favourite teams from the 16 clubs that are going to take part,” said Tawengwa.

The tournament’s draw was conducted on Tuesday night at Nokies Bar.

Queens Pool Academy were drawn into Group A together, with the league’s seasoned campaigners Entumbane, Golden Lion and ZPC Kariba and they will all converge on Queens Sports Club for their elimination games.

Palace Pool Club will seek to use home advantage as their venue is set to play host to Group B matches that will pit Nkulumane, Ace Basement and Queens Legends.

Group C is made up of Dragons, Raylton, Black Eagles and Lobengula Sharks and they will do their battle at Nokies Bar.

Exchange, Central Professionals, Skittle Inn and Kings make up Pool D. They will play their first-round matches at Golden Pillars.

BPPA publicity officer Osbornewells Dziko said they were looking forward to an exciting meet.

“The draw was successfully conducted on Tuesday night. All the participating teams now know who their Group opponents are and as such we are looking forward to an exciting competition,” said Dziko.

He said winners of the competition would go home with a prize money of US$350. The first runners-up will pocket US$200 and the third and fourth best clubs would receive US$150 and US$100 respectively.
