ENTUMBANE grannies coach Nobuhle Miriam Majika (33) was impressed by the way her team played in the Grannies International Tournament that was recently held in Limpopo, South Africa.

The tournament was held from 26 to 29 March.

Majika who started coaching the team in February said althoughย the grannies lost all the threeย games they played they however, displayed huge signs of improvement.

โ€œI am impressed by the way they played against other teams. I was mostly impressed by the fact that they are following the football stunts we practiced during ourย training sessions and they did well,โ€ said Majika.

Majika also said that the Magogos didnโ€™t win nor score in all the three games they played but their performance was pleasing.ย

โ€œI wasnโ€™t expecting them to win but to see if they mastered the things I taught them because some teams have been playing soccer for over 10 years and our team is only three months old and it was competing for the first time,โ€ she said.

Entumbane Grannies club owner Shadreck Moyo said the challenge that the Magogos had was that itย was their first time wearing football boots.

He said โ€œWe bought football boots for the grannies a few hours before their first match and it was a huge challenge because they were not used to ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  themโ€.ย

Majika said the elderly citizens were using football as a mechanism to stay healthy added:ย

โ€œIt was my first time to travel with the grannies and they do respectย me as their coach despite the factย that I am young and they co-operate wellโ€.

Majika has also been invited by the Pumula South grannies for the Pumula Magogos football training sessions.
