A SECURITY guard manning a liquor supplier shop in Bulawayo is lucky to be alive after he was struck on the head by four machete-wielding robbers before they got away with an assortment of alcoholic beverages and R100.
While the security guard was manning Liquor Supplies premises in Kelvin North industrial area, a four-member gang armed with machetes, knives and iron rod arrived. A source close to the hair-raising incident said when the robbers pounced the guard was standing at the office door and upon seeing the robbers he quickly closed the door and locked himself inside.
โThey broke the padlock at the main gate and went inside the yard before heading to the office and knocked while ordering the security guard to open the door but he never opened it,โ said the source.
The robbers seemed to be on a mission when they immediately broke down the door before getting inside.
โOne of the robbers struck the guard with the handle of a machete on the head and demanded keys to the safe. The security guard fell to the ground and maintained that he didnโt have the safe keys,โ said the source.
The source further said the robbers then broke into a room where there was alcohol and stole an assortment of alcoholic beverages. They then opened a safe and there was only R100 which they took.
Later on the guard regained consciousness and phoned his manager (name supplied) who then reported the incident at Western Commonage Police Station.
The guard was taken to hospital.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident and appealed for information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.
