Polygamous man beats wife

ย A 43-YEAR-OLD polygamous man from Nketa 6 suburb in Bulawayo has appeared in court for physically assaulting one of his wives over a yet to be established domestic dispute.

ย Morris Chimhepo appeared before Western Commonage court magistrate Shepherd Mjanja facing a charge of physical abuse as defined in Section 3 (1) (a) as read with Section 4 of the Domestic Violence Act Chapter 5:16.

Chimhepo, who has three wives and 16 children, pleaded guilty to the charge and was remanded out of custody to 22 February 2023 for sentencing.

The court heard that on 18 February 2023 Chimhepo was at home with one of his wives Sharai Ghonhi (28) and their two children.

The couple had a misunderstanding and Chimhepo started assaulting his wife with open hands several times all over her body.

Ghonhi sustained a body ache as a result of the attack but did not seek any medical treatment.

She went and reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of her husband.

Ghonhi said despite being a short-tempered man who is physically abusive, Chimhepo was a loving husband and father.
