AFTER watching Palace Pool Club being crowned champions of the 2023 Bulawayo Province Pool Association (BPPA) two-day Easter tournament when they made light work of Entumbane who they thumped 8-3 in a final match, the association’s league action enters round four on Saturday.

“After a successful and eventful Easter tournament, league action bounces back with potentially explosive ties scheduled for Saturday.

We say congratulations to Place Pool Club and we would also like to thank all the 16 clubs that took part in the Easter tournament for upholding the spirit of sportsmanship,” said BPPA publicity officer Osbornewells Dziko.

For their week four tie, buoyant Palace Pool Club will meet bruised Exchange who were edged 9-7 by Dragons in the Easter contest’ third place playoff.

Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) will entertain last season’s third best club Entumbane while Central lockhorns with Dragons.

Raylton will seek to utilise home advantage when they square it off against Nkulumane PC. Queens Pool Club will play host to Skittle Inn.

Lobengula Sharks will do battle against seasoned campaigners Kings while Golden Lion fight it out against Black Eagles.

Queens Legends have an away fixture against Ace Basement after a long Easter break that saw ZRP Bulawayo Select team, which has set base at Golden Pillars continue with their preparations to take part in this year’s edition of Commissioner General of Police Sports Gala set to be held in Harare in May.

The cops beat National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) Southern Region select side 11-8 in a friendly match that was played on Wednesday.

The NRZ select side is fine tuning for the forthcoming regional games for railmen in Southern Africa that are scheduled for June in Botswana.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Pool Association (Zipa) Umpires seminar is set to be held on Saturday at Gweru’s The Barn joint where over 30 participants are expected to take part.

Zipa technical director Wellington Chikasha said district and provincial umpires are expected to take part in the one-day seminar that will see each participant pay US$15 registration fee meant to cover venue hire expenses, stationery costs, breakfast, lunch and certificate production for the partakers.

“We are expecting to have 30 plus participants in the one-day seminar that is scheduled for Gweru on Saturday.

The seminar is meant to equip district and provincial umpires on how to professionally handle pool matches.

Last year, we had similar events that were held in Chitungwiza and Harare that attracted 35 participants,” said Chikasha.

With regards to topics that are going to be covered at the seminar Chikasha said five areas on All Africa Pool Association (AAPA) playing format which is now mandatory to all affiliates, AAPA scoresheet whom they expect all leagues to start using, Heyball Orientation, Blackball Rules and Umpires or Consultants Key Result Area are going to be addressed.

“After the coverage of these five topics, participants will write a 40 minutes long test where there will be 25 questions carrying four marks each,” said Chikasha.

Zipa public relations officer Donald Wadawu said they were encouraging all districts, provinces and clubs to send their representatives.

“We are greatly looking forward to all districts, provinces and individual teams to send their representatives for the seminar as these will in turn serve as trainers at their respective bases when they come back from the seminar.

Sending more representatives will help us have a more effective seminar,” said Wadawu.
