TWO security guards deployed at a mine in Hope Fountain on the outskirts of Bulawayo have been arrested on murder charges for fatally shooting an illegal miner who had reportedly resisted arrest.
Musabvunza Mabumure (40) and Jabulani Nyathi (53) have since appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Nomagugu Maphosa facing a murder charge.
They were not asked to plead and were remanded in custody to 27 April.
Allegations against the two security guards from Allied Security Company and who were deployed at Carrymine are that on 10 April, they were on their routine patrol when they discovered that there were some illegal miners who had sneaked into the mine.
They then went to one of the mine shafts where they found the illegal miners and they fired a warning shot to disperse them.
The illegal miners reportedly dispersed but later came back when they realised that they had left one of their colleagues in the mine shaft.
When they came back they found the two security guards at the mine shaft ordering their colleague to come out and he complied.
When they tried to arrest him, he resisted and ran away.
Nyathi is alleged to have instructed Mabumure to open fire on him and the latter reacted and fatally shot him.
The duo went and notified their supervisor Terence Dzingire about their incident.
Dzingire later reported the matter to the police and investigations led to the arrest of the duo.
