A soldier based at Imbizo Barracksย  formerly Llewellyn Barracks will live to rue the day he went to drink beer at a local drinking spot at night after he was stabbed and robbedย  of his mobile phone and cash US$180 by a nine-man gang.

The incident happened in Entumbane suburb close to a beer hallย  on Sunday shortly after 9pm.

The soldierโ€™s drinking mate who spoke to B-Metro on condition of anonymity said Luckson Mpande (35) boarded a commuter omnibus from town heading to his home.

He disembarked at D-Square before he headed to the beer hall and while he was walking nine men confronted him.

โ€œOne of the robbers moved swiftly to him while hurling insults at him. Mpande tried to land a fist on him then things turned bad for him when he was stabbed.

“They kicked him and he fell down and passed out. They searched him and took US$180 and a phone and fled from the scene,” narrated Mpandeโ€™s friend.

Mpande later recovered and reported the incident at Njube Police Station.
