Sore loser bashes fellow gambler

Mashudu Mambo
A SORE loser in a game of cards let out his frustration by bashing a fellow gambler with a stone.
18-year-old Bhekinkosi Moyo from How Mine in Bulawayo has been slapped with an 18-month jail sentence for the outburst that left Proud Ndlovu (21) hospitalised.

He pleaded guilty to assault before Bulawayo magistrate Nomagugu Maphosa.
Bhekinkosi told the magistrate he picked a stone and let it loose on Proudโ€™s head because he was frustrated by a series of losing hands.ย  In sentencing Bhekinkosi, the magistrate considered that he is a first offender and a father of a one-month-old baby and therefore a custodial sentence would be harsh as he is a breadwinner.

Six months of his sentence were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour and the remaining 12 months were suspended on condition that he completes 420 hours of community service at Mthombothemba Primary School. The court heard that on 23 January 2023 at around 7 pm, Proud and Bhekinkosi were gambling at Mhlahlandlela homestead.

A misunderstanding arose and Bhekinkosi attacked Proud with the stone once on top of his left eye and once on the head and fled. The matter was reported to the police leading to Bhekinkosiโ€™s arrest.

Proud sustained injuries and a medical report was presented in court and it indicated that Ndlovu had a deep cut above the left eye and on his head.
