Tenant dragged to court

Danisa Masuku

MODESTER Mlotshwa from Nketa 6 suburb in Bulawayo is a troubled landlady.

She is enduring hard times at the hands of her tenant Mandla Ndlovu who does not want to pay rent.

According to her Ndlovu last paid rent in January last year. Mlotshwa claims whenever she confronts him, he shouts at her. She said he does not stop at that as he would also destroy her household property.

Mlotshwa said in a fit of anger Ndlovu usually threatens to beat her up and at one point he violently pushed her against the wall.

Assault

“I’m the applicant in this matter, Mandla Ndlovu is the defendant. After the death of my mother last year in January Mandla stopped paying rent and when I asked him he got angry with me.

“He has destroyed my property which include TV set, radio and plates. He harasses me and at times he threatens to chuck me out of my parents’ house.”

Mlotshwa denied the accusations levelled against him.

“The truth of the matter is that she doesn’t want me to stay there and she served me with a notice while I had paid in advance,” he said.

The presiding magistrate Sikhethile Moyo granted Mlotshwa a protection order.

Ndlovu was ordered not to harass her or destroy her property.
