Valentine’s Affair at the ZITF Pavilion

As a way of celebrating love while gemming to love-themed yesteryear soulful songs, the Private School movement has crafted a lovers’ edition set to be held at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair’s The Pavilion on 16 February.

Private school is an organised movement that accommodates a mature crowd in the mid-30s to the late 40s by crafting different themed gigs that accommodate them through playing mature music and offering services that complement the nature of the targeted market.

The concept of the upcoming edition — a first for the year — was inspired by Valentine’s Day and its culture of spreading and celebrating love.

Sunday’s are for lovers, hence, the organisers settled for the gig to be held on a Sunday (16 February) so as to align the theme of love by playing good music for the soul on a Sunday. One of the organisers of the event Davison “Diva” Feliate said as Valentine’s Day approaches, they decided to accommodate those who celebrate the day.

He emphasised that the gig is not for couples but for everyone who believes in love, be it friends or family.

“Soon it will be Valentine’s and the nature of our movement is old-school music. To celebrate love, we thought of doing the first edition of Private School on Valentine’s weekend. We are incorporating the spirit of love and togetherness which will be complemented by good soulful music on a Sunday.

“As we are left with a month, we are still trying to work around the clock to make this event is a huge one. It’s an ‘All White’ event but for emphasis, any colours especially those that are in line with Valentine’s, or those that people are comfortable with, are welcome. What also people have to note is that the event is not strictly for couples but it’s for everyone who believes in love.

Last time we held a 1999-themed love event and this time we are going back by 10 years to the 1990s meaning that on this event one can bring their uncle or aunty, friends, family and any mature person who might vibe with this kind of gig.

“There will be games to be played as we will place a deck of cards on each table and other props for games so that people can have a bit of fun. Revellers have to come early as the event will start at 2pm,” said Feliate.

He predicted a sold-out event as he said they target a loyal market.

“Our movement has been growing and the secret is always delivering what you promise people. Our targeted crowd is very mature and they have the zeal, passion and finances to go out frequently.

“As Private School we then come into the mix as we craft events that can resonate with their needs and wants, as the city does accommodate them with a peaceful place where they won’t mingle with a young crowd,” said Feliate.
