ANOTHER day of cricket was lost without much action at Bulawayo Athletic Club (BAC) in a Logan Cup match between Tuskers and Rhinos yesterday.
Only 9.3 overs were played yesterday which was day three after the first two days were lost due to persistent rains in the City of Kings and Queens.
No play was possible on day one and two.
The toss was finally done yesterday and Rhinos opted to field first. At the time the game was stopped due to wet patches on the field, Tuskers were on 17/0 with Tanunurwa Makoni on 11 runs off 28 deliveries and
Nkosana Mpofu was on five runs from 30 deliveries.
Stumps was called just after the tea break.
Speaking after end of play yesterday, Tuskers head coach, Walter Chawaguta said they have to accept the situation as it is as it is beyond their control. He said they were hoping to see their side really get some game time after their game against Southern Rocks in the capital last week was also affected by rain.
“It goes (rain disruptions) even as far back as the last match in Harare. I thought we played really well with the bat. We had put enough runs to put Rocks under pressure but unfortunately things didn’t go they way we wanted.
“These things happen, no one can control it. We all wanted it to rain in any case but it would have been nice to get on the field and see where our players are, especially our bowlers who haven’t been tested for a while,”said Chawaguta.
The Tuskers gaffer added that he is hopeful that the weather will be friendly next week when they travel to the capital to face Eagles.
Chawaguta added that he would like to see his batters go out today and have a run if the weather permits.
“It will be nice for our batters to get there and bat some more tomorrow (today) and then whatever the weather decides, we will accept it but there’s nothing we can do,” said Chawaguta.
Day four play is scheduled to start at 09.30am and the game is free of charge. – @brandon_malvin.
