THE Zimbabwe Under-18 men’s baseball team is gearing up for a tough challenge as they face off against South Africa in a World Cup Qualifier this coming weekend.

The team, coached by Batsirai Murazvu and captained by Anesu Mhuriro, will play a best-of-five series in Johannesburg from Friday till Sunday.

Eldon Mudzingwa, the vice president of the Zimbabwe Baseball Association (ZBA), acknowledges that beating South Africa will be a huge task, but he is confident the team will give it their all.

“We are playing a powerhouse. You look at their team, they have been together since Under-12 and they have progressed as a team to this stage. It’s a model, which we should also copy. I am confident the boys will put up a good fight despite the odds seemingly against us. I am confident we might be able to cause an upset,” said Mudzingwa.

The team has been preparing in Gweru and left for South Africa on Tuesday, ready to take on the challenge.

The WBSC Under-18 Baseball World Cup 2025 will take place in Japan.

Mudzingwa’s confidence in the team stems from their dedication and hard work during training.
The team has been working tirelessly to improve their skills and strategy, and Mudzingwa believes this will pay off in the upcoming series.

The winner of this series will secure a spot in the World Cup.

Despite being the underdogs, the Zimbabwean team is determined to make a statement in the World Cup Qualifier.

They are eager to prove themselves against a strong opponent and demonstrate their growth and development as a team.

The series against South Africa will be a valuable learning experience for the young Zimbabwean players.

Win or lose, they will gain invaluable experience and exposure to top-level competition, which will help them grow and improve as players.
