NEWLY promoted Zifa Central Region Division One outfit, Mawabeni FC, are leaving no stone unturned to ensure they have a strong squad ahead of their maiden appearance in the country’s second-tier competition.
The ambitious Mawabeni side, popularly known as “Amawab’amahle”, is set to hold trials this weekend in a bid to strengthen the squad.
The trials are open to everyone and will be held at Mawabeni Ground on Saturday and Sunday between 10am and 4pm. Aspiring players should bring a copy of their IDs or passports.
Mawabeni FC chairperson, Mpumelelo “Mbesuma” Nkomazana, confirmed that they would be hosting trials to bolster the squad ahead of the 2025 season.
“Division One football is no child’s play. It is going to be difficult and requires a strong squad. In light of that, we will be hosting trials to ensure that we bolster our team as we prepare for life in Division One.
We want to make sure we have a strong squad with talented players.
“We are calling on all aspiring footballers who wish to join our team and be a part of this history-making community side to come in numbers for the trials, which we will be hosting at our beloved home ground.
All players wishing to attend are required to bring identification, whether it’s a national ID or a valid passport. They should also be dressed appropriately,” said Nkomazana.
Mawabeni FC were promoted to the 2025 Central Region Division One League after finishing second in the Zifa Matabeleland South Division Two League. Gwanda Pirates took the top spot and only two points separated them.
Founded in 2019, Mawabeni FC are keen to follow in the footsteps of Stars United from the same district who played in Division One and gave a good account of themselves in the 1990s.
Nkomazana added that it was pleasing to see their hard work paying off.
