Mixed fortunes for CBC first team in Harare

Christian Brothers College (CBC) cricket side’s recent visit to Harare yielded mixed results, with one win, one loss, and an abandoned match due to rain.

The team played two matches against Hellenic Academy and one against Peterhouse over the weekend.

The first match against Hellenic Academy on Friday ended in a disappointing nine-wicket defeat for CBC.

Batting first, CBC managed only 83/6 in 20 overs, with Lee Ellerman top-scoring with 25 runs off 27 deliveries.

Dhruv Patel took three wickets for Hellenic Academy, restricting CBC’s scoring.

Hellenic Academy chased down the target in just 11 overs, finishing on 84/1.

Daniel Makings scored an unbeaten 50 runs off 30 balls, while Patel contributed 24 runs off 34 balls.

Undeterred by their initial loss, the CBC team regrouped and secured a convincing 40-run victory over Hellenic Academy in their second encounter.

In this 50-over match, CBC posted 180 runs in 45.3 overs, with Praneet Dhaya (34 off 38 deliveries) and Lee Ellerman (34 off 33 deliveries) leading the charge.

Sydney Ndlovu chipped in with 24 runs off 54 deliveries.

In response, Hellenic Academy was bowled out for 140 runs in 38,3 overs.

Patel and Matthew Martell took three wickets each for 15 runs, while Kirby Madaramete, Ruben Sanders, and Oliver Van Zyl claimed one wicket each.

For CBC, Pilate Ndlovu (3/25 in 10 overs) and Dylan Saudan (3/28 in 9,3 overs) delivered outstanding bowling performances, supported by Takudzwa Maposa and Luis Gomes, who took two wickets each.

Christian Makings top-scored for Hellenic Academy with 27 runs off 40 deliveries.

Unfortunately, the match against Peterhouse was abandoned due to rain, with Peterhouse batting on 61/1 in 13,5 overs.
