South African actress, Brenda Ngxoli, has bravely come forward with allegations of long-term abuse at the hands of her family, igniting a wave of support, outrage and an outpouring of generosity on social media.
Known for her powerful roles in Home Affairs, The Queen, and Rockville, Ngxoli revealed in a series of social media posts that she has endured both verbal and physical abuse from family members. The latest revelation comes after a dramatic incident over the weekend, when Ngxoli and her mother had a confrontation that was recorded and shared on Instagram.
The actress, who faced a period of homelessness, now adds another layer of complexity to her story as she opens up about the abuse, including a continued pattern of mistreatment from her mother. Ngxoli, who became a mother herself in 2022 with the birth of her daughter, Sky, explained that her decision to speak out was motivated by her desire to protect her child and break the cycle of abuse.
She expressed frustration with the societal expectation that victims should remain silent to protect family reputation, questioning why the burden of resolving such situations often falls on the victims themselves.
Her courage has resonated deeply with fans and fellow actors alike, many of whom have shown their support and offered heartfelt advice. On X (formerly Twitter), many have urged her to distance herself from her family in order to safeguard her daughter’s future and prioritise her own well-being.
In a heartening display of solidarity, TikTok influencer Mandisi Tshingana, launched a campaign to raise funds for Ngxoli during this challenging time. The campaign has gained significant traction, with donations surpassing R100 000. Ferguson Films, led by Connie Ferguson, donated R50 000, offering some relief during this trying time.
On Monday, Ngxoli expressed her gratitude to the public for their overwhelming support, both emotional and financial.
“Thank you people of the South and beyond. I can’t just keep quiet… but thank you very much for your financial gifts of support,” she shared in a heartfelt message.
She also thanked South Africans for their emotional backing following the circulation of a video showing her verbal altercation with her mother, acknowledging the power of their solidarity in this difficult chapter of her life.— NowInSA
