PRESIDENT Mnangagwa has donated three tonnes of rice to vulnerable communities and various nursing and care homes in Bulawayo.
With the festive season knocking on the door, the President’s donation has brought much-needed relief and renewed hope to those struggling with the financial pressures of the holiday season.
As the expenses of holiday meals and luxuries continue to rise, many families and individuals are facing significant concerns regarding the affordability of basic necessities.
President Mnangagwa’s generous donation could not have come at a better time, providing support to those grappling with the realities of the current economic situation.
Bulawayo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Judith Ncube, handed over the donation to 20 different care homes yesterday at the Mhlahlandlela Government Complex.
Minister Ncube expressed her sincere gratitude and appreciation for the President’s support for the vulnerable communities in society.
“This is from the President and as you can see everyone is being catered for. We all want to enjoy the festive season and this donation will ensure that we all are happy in our different setups,” said Minister Ncube.
“As Christmas approaches, let’s not forget the spirit of togetherness and support. With initiatives like President Mnangagwa’s rice donation, there’s a renewed sense of hope that even in difficult times, the community can come together to uplift those who need it most.”
Representatives from the beneficiary organisations expressed gratitude for the gesture, saying the donation would go a long way in addressing their plight.
“Christmas is a time for giving and sharing. With the support of this rice donation, we can help ensure that no one goes hungry during the holidays,” said one of the representatives.
Another one said: “This is a timely boost for us, particularly now that we are heading into the festive season. We are grateful to the President for this gesture.”
The rice will be distributed to various institutions, providing staple stretching budgets and filling plates.
As families gather to celebrate the festive season, food on the table can bring a sense of normalcy and joy, even in tough times.
While the holiday season is often associated with gifts and indulgence, it also highlights the stark realities many face.
The latest donation comes barely a day after the First Lady, Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, through her Angel of Hope Foundation (AoHF), donated a consignment of Christmas goods to three care homes in Bulawayo on Monday.
The three homes that received the donation are Jairos Jiri Old People’s Home, SOS Children’s Home, and Ekuphumuleni Geriatric Nursing Home.
The goodies included maize meal, cooking oil, maize, rice, sugar, salt, and soya chunks, among others.
