Search for Zimbabwe’s next beauty queen begins

Harare Bureau

Following the success of reigning Miss Universe Zimbabwe, Sakhile Dube, who represented the country well at last year’s international pageant, event organisers of the third edition of the Miss Universe Zimbabwe (MUZ) beauty pageant have announced that registration is now open.

The registration, which is available both physically and online, will close on April 12. Aspiring and qualified models must be at least 18 years old, with auditions set to begin in March.

In an interview, MUZ logistics director Alison Makusha confirmed that the calendar for the national pageant has been released and some aspiring models have already begun registering.

She stated that there is no age limit for the Miss Universe pageant, in line with global guidelines.

“We’re following the regulations of the Miss Universe global pageant, which has no age limit. However, as a board, we will determine the appropriate range for our competition,” she said.

“Divorced, married and unmarried women, including those with children, are welcome to participate.”

Makusha said they decided to start scouting earlier this year to allow sufficient preparation time for the winner ahead of the international stage.

She also announced that auditions will take place from March 29 to April 12 in various cities, including Masvingo, Mutare and Harare. The finale has been scheduled for May.

“The top 12 finalists will be unveiled on April 26, after which they will enter a boot camp in preparation for the finale the following month. The prestigious event will return to Hippodrome (Harare), with hosts to be announced soon,” said Makusha.

The winner will go on to represent Zimbabwe on the global stage at a venue and country to be announced.

Sakhile Dube finished in the top 30 at the Miss Universe pageant in Mexico. Danish dancer Victoria Kjær Theilvig (21) was crowned Miss Universe 2024, becoming the first Dane to win the competition. Nigerian beauty queen Chidimma Adetshina was named first runner-up, while Mexico’s Maria Fernanda Beltran secured third place.
