Stadia renovations: Delta Beverages impressed with progress

DELTA Beverages marketing director, Irimayi Muzorewa, has expressed his delight with the ongoing rehabilitation of Zimbabwe’s sports stadia.

Speaking at the 2024 Soccer Stars banquet in Harare on Friday night, Muzorewa commended the stakeholders involved in efforts to enhance the country’s sports infrastructure.

“Every stakeholder must play their part in improving football in the country. I am encouraged that discussions are on for the rehabilitation of stadia.

“A few weeks ago, I had a meeting with the Ministry of Local Government, and funds from the budget are being poured into the rehabilitation of the National Sports Stadium. So we hope that these plans come to fruition.

“It is important that there is work on our stadia because there has been a sad scenario with our teams that qualified for continental football playing outside the country,” said Muzorewa.

Muzorewa’s comments come as several local stadia are undergoing renovations to improve their facilities.

Rufaro Stadium, for example, is set to receive a major facelift, with the installation of new bucket seats and improved amenities.

The stadium’s western grandstand, including the VIP enclosure, will be fitted with 6 000 new seats, with a further 16 500 seats to be installed in the coming weeks.

Similarly, the National Sports Stadium is also undergoing renovations, with the Government allocating funds for the upgrade of the facility.

The stadium, which has been dormant for several months, is expected to be ready for use by next year.

Muzorewa also took the opportunity to call for improved officiating in the league.

“The quality of officiating has been in the spotlight for some time now, and I hope that something will be done to improve it when the new Zifa leadership comes in,” he said.

Muzorewa’s comments reflect the company’s commitment to promoting and developing football in Zimbabwe.
