Vision 2030 is a unifying national agenda — Garwe

LOCAL Government and Public Works Minister, Cde Daniel Garwe has rallied Zimbabweans to back the “Vision 2030” drive as it is an agenda that unites the nation despite political differences.

Cde Garwe who was addressing councillors from six local authorities from the Midlands province yesterday, said the vision 2030 drive is a national agenda meant to benefit all Zimbabweans regardless of one’s political affiliation.

The councillors are attending a three-day Heritage Based Training Workshop run by the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology in Gweru.

The councils represented are Kwekwe City Council, Redcliff Municipality, Vungu Rural District Council (RDC), Shurugwi Town Council, Chirumhanzu RDC and Mberengwa RDC.

Minister Garwe said the Vision 2030 agenda was driven by the collective goal of propelling Zimbabwe towards an upper-middle-income economy by 2030.

“As the country strives to achieve its Vision 2030 goals, the Second Republic under the visionary leadership of President Mnangagwa remains committed to fulfilling its promise of a brighter, more prosperous future for all citizens,” said Minister Garwe.

Zanu-PF and veterans of the liberation struggle have reaffirmed their commitment to resolutions made at the 21st Annual National People’s Conference in Bulawayo last year, which called for the extension of President Mnangagwa’s term of office beyond 2028 to ensure continuity in the Government’s Vision 2030 agenda.

Government has begun implementing various resolutions adopted at the Zanu-PF Annual National People’s Conference, which focus on critical areas such as economic development, social services, poverty eradication, infrastructure development, value addition, liberation war heritage, climate change, and international engagement.

“According to Mark 11 vs 23 to 24, what so ever we desire, if we pray and believe the Bible tells us that we shall get what we desire. The same goes for President Mnangagwa, his desire is for the country to enjoy unity, peace and development for ourselves, our children and generations to come. His desire is Zimbabwe first,” said Cde Garwe.

He said President Mnangagwa recently hosted Parliamentarians including those from the opposition Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) who supported the Vision 2030 drive.

“Members from CCC pledged to support Vision 2030 given the transformation trajectory taking place in the country. CCC interim secretary-general Senator Sengezo Tshabangu told the President that is if it is the will of the people to push Vision 2030, then the President should stay put,” he said.

“It is important that councillors speak like their elder brothers, MPs who are supporting the Vision 2030 drive,” said Minister Garwe amid cheers and ululations from the councillors.
Minister Garwe added that as resolution number one born out of the Zanu PF National Conference, the

“ED 2030” agenda was now a national agenda.

“It’s a Zimbabwean agenda that President Mnangagwa leads the country to 2030. This is what the people want and they must be given what they want. Let’s ensure we spread the gospel that the Vision 2030 led by President Mnangagwa is unstoppable. We need to ensure that we promote it, sing about it so that we enhance the unstopability of the vision,” said Minister Garwe.

He said the workshop was a momentous occasion of capacitating local authorities on critical issues of nation building that will ultimately enable the country to achieve its goal of an upper middle income society by 2030.

“Let me reiterate that the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, through its mandate of monitoring, supervising, and capacitating local authorities in Zimbabwe conducts routine and custom-made training programmes for councils staff and councillors,” he said.

Minister Garwe said the ministry is rolling-out a three phased council induction programme meant to equip mayors, chairpersons and councillors for their roles as stewards of their respective councils.

Minister Garwe said Government has seen the need to include a heritage-based initiation course into the training and induction process, to ensure local authorities, as a third tier of Government, better understand the national development agenda espoused in Vision 2030.

He said the national development mantra articulated by President Mnangagwa clearly advocates for inclusive development and this requires the combined effort from all Zimbabweans, regardless of background, income, creed or political persuasion.
