Macala drops first single for the year

Fast-rising Afro-Pop sensation, Nigel Landelani Thole, famously known as “Macala,” is a man on a mission — ready to conquer 2025 — as he has already released his first single for the year titled Umesabe Umuntu, which loosely translates to “you must fear people.”

The song conveys a powerful message about trust and caution in relationships.

Umesabe Umuntu features Lewanika M Tylor and Skyz Metro FM host, Copper Man.

The entire production was done by award-winning producer, Smallz from Elephant Herd.

Macala, who hails from Nkulumane, Bulawayo, who has been making waves in the music scene with his unique sound, which blends Afro-Pop, Maskandi and AmaPiano elements, said the composition of the song was inspired by his life experiences.

“Umesabe Umuntu was inspired by my own experiences with betrayal and disappointments that I witnessed from the people I trusted the most. With these experiences, I have learnt that in life you can’t trust everyone or rely on them — that on its own is a hard lesson to learn. This song is my way of warning others to be cautious in life and not expect too much from people, especially friends and relatives,” said Macala.

The young artiste learnt a lot from the seasoned creatives he worked with on the project as he said it was a life-changing opportunity.

“The people I worked with on the project are super amazing. If you look at Cooper Man, he is a radio host and he understands the quality of music that has to be produced for the people to consume.

“On the other hand, Smallz is a great producer who has seen it all in the local scene, producing music for the city’s outstanding creatives. He has a good ear for music and working with him was a life changing opportunity as I look forward to following in his footsteps,” said Macala.

Macala’s musical journey started when he was doing his secondary education at Ihlathi High, Bulawayo.

He was a devoted member of the school’s drama club both as an actor and a background music vocalist.

He draws his inspiration from South African multi-award-winning muso, Mlindo the Vocalist.

As the year progresses, Macala said fans have to look forward to more music as he will soon be releasing another single produced by Smashmaker titled Ungamthanda featuring Mzoe 7 and Fatela.
