Afro pop and gospel singer, Tawananyasha “Sparko Gucci” Chirombedza, is eager to meet his role model, Feli Nandi. The 20-year-old, who hails from Harare, credits the former Mhodzi Tribe member as a huge inspiration for his music.
In a recent interview, Sparko Gucci expressed his admiration for Feli Nandi, stating, “It’s exciting that my role model in music is a female musician like Feli Nandi.
“She has won numerous awards in a short time and is undoubtedly one of the most sought-after singers. If I had even 20 percent of her talent, I could have accomplished so much because she is incredibly gifted.”
Sparko Gucci shared his wish to meet his idol, admitting, “It’s unfortunate that I haven’t been able to reach out to her or meet her yet, but I believe that, in time, God will make a way.
“I have been following her music for some time now, and I truly admire her lyrical depth, as well as her composition and songwriting techniques.”
Currently, Sparko Gucci is making a name for himself with his Extended Play titled “Broken Heart,” which is performing well on YouTube.
The EP features five tracks: “Fake Friends,” “Ndiwe,” “Shirley,” “Zvichaita Rinhi,” and “Memories.”
However, he expressed concerns about the lack of airplay as a major challenge.
“As a newcomer in music, the path can be bumpy, especially with limited airplay on local radio stations,” he explained.
“Despite this challenge, I won’t throw in the towel because music is a calling for me, not just a pastime. My supportive father manages my affairs and encourages me to keep my head up as I pursue my dreams.”
Sparko Gucci, who is also a Digital Marketing student, has found ways to balance his busy schedule.
“Success is achievable if you manage your time well, as I try to do.
“I ensure that my plans don’t conflict. With music, it’s easier because I can record and play instruments myself, which lightens my load.”
Raised in a Christian family and being the son of a pastor, Sparko Gucci is committed to leading by example.
“Some children of church leaders are known for their wayward behavior, but that’s not me. You can ask my father, who has been a constant support throughout my life. While I’m not perfect, I strive to avoid being troublesome.”
Like many artists, Sparko Gucci has faced frustrations in his career.
“I recorded two songs for MP Scott Sakupwanya and another for Minister Tino Machakaire, but I couldn’t deliver the copies to them. I was unable to meet them, but it’s now water under the bridge. I believe I will have the chance to connect with them in the future.”
Born in a family of three boys, Sparko Gucci attended St Antony’s Primary School in Zakata, Masvingo, before completing his secondary education at Zaka High School and Quality Academy in Harare.
His ambition is to achieve international recognition and expand his music beyond Zimbabwe.
