Aphiwe pays tribute to Khumalo

South African vocalist Naledi Aphiwe has released a heartfelt tribute song in honour of the late Afropop sensation, Winnie Khumalo.

Known for her vibrant presence and iconic hit “Live My Life,” Khumalo sadly passed away at the age of 51 after a brief illness.

Her passing marks the end of a journey that began in the 80s, leaving a legacy in both the music and television industries.

Aphiwe, deeply moved by Khumalo’s influence, shared her tribute song on Instagram. The emotional track has already struck a chord with fans, echoing the profound impact of Khumalo’s career.

In her post, Aphiwe wrote, “Rest in peace to our wonderful lady.” Winnie Khumalo, you will always be remembered for your amazing work and voice”.

This touching caption set the tone for a song filled with gratitude and remembrance.

In the lyrics, Aphiwe praises Khumalo for her contributions to the music world, acknowledging that she has done her part and can now rest in peace.

“We’re thankful for the music you gave us. We will never forget you. You will always be in our hearts,” Aphiwe sings, reflecting the emotions of many fans and fellow artistes.

The song also acts as a personal prayer with Aphiwe asking for strength and protection from God as she navigates her own struggles.

The emotional response to the song has been overwhelming.

One fan commented: “You’re gifted, Sisi is jealous, and she’s probably listening and smiling down at you. One word: “WOW.”

Since news of Khumalo’s passing broke, tributes have poured in from across South Africa, highlighting the profound impact she had on her fans and the entertainment industry.

Her music and roles in popular TV shows have left an indelible mark, and she will be remembered as a true icon.

Aphiwe’s tribute is a beautiful reminder of the lasting influence Khumalo had, ensuring her legacy lives on in the hearts of many.

The life of Khumalo will be celebrated during her memorial service at The Market Theatre in Johannesburg on Wednesday, January 15, at noon. — IOL
