Cabinet has approved the establishment of the Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) for cooperation between Zimbabwe and Lesotho to address issues of mutual benefit between the two countries.

Minister of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere confirmed the latest development during a post-Cabinet media briefing on Tuesday.

“Cabinet approved that a Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation, as a legal framework to guide cooperation between Zimbabwe and Lesotho, be put in place in the Second quarter of 2025,” said Minister Muswere.

“In addition, Cabinet also approved that the Ministries of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture, and Tourism and Hospitality Industry conduct high-level visits to the cultural village of Basotho so that they can implement it in our country.

“Zimbabwe should engage the Lesotho Government to initiate Memoranda of Understanding in potential areas of cooperation.”

Vice President Kembo Mohadi recently represented President Mnangagwa at the bicentenary and 58th Independence Celebrations held in Maseru, Lesotho.

The Vice President had the opportunity to engage with the Basotho leaders on several bilateral issues.

He also had an interactive session with Zimbabweans based in that country where several issues of cooperation were discussed.

The VP also updated the nationals on the progress made on economic and infrastructure development back home.
